Understanding Card Value & Demand
Some cards are worth a fortune, while others are priceless simply because they're your favourites!
Discover what influences a Karuta card's trading value, how player demand affects prices, and why rarity doesn't always mean expensive.
Karuta's card values are determined by its player-driven economy. Understanding what makes a card desirable can help you recognize valuable drops, evaluate offers, and avoid unfair trades.
01 What Determines Card Value?
Several factors influence how much players are willing to offer for a card.
| Factor | How It Affects Value |
|---|---|
| Print Number | Lower prints are often more desirable |
| Edition | Certain artwork editions attract more collectors |
| Wishlist (WL) | Higher wishlist counts can indicate stronger demand |
| Condition | Mint cards may be preferred over lower-quality cards |
| Customization | Frames, dyes, and cosmetics may affect desirability |
| Worker Potential | Cards with desirable working stats may attract interest |
No single factor guarantees a card's value. A popular High Print can sometimes be worth more than a Low Print with little demand.
02 Understanding Supply & Demand
Card values are influenced by how many copies are available and how many players want them.
- High Demand: Popular characters and desirable editions may attract more buyers.
- Low Supply: Rare prints and limited availability can increase collector interest.
▸ Example:
- Card A: Print #50 with 200 WL.
- Card B: Print #1500 with 10,000 WL.
Card A has the rarer print, but Card B features a much more popular character. Depending on current demand, either card could attract the higher offer.
Wishlist counts measure player interest, not guaranteed prices.
03 How To Estimate Card Value
Karuta doesn't have one fixed price for every card. Players negotiate prices based on the current market.
▸ Before accepting an offer:
- Check the card's print, edition, condition, and wishlist.
- Compare recent listings for similar cards.
- Look at completed trades when available.
- Ask experienced traders for a price check if you're unsure.
▸ Checking character popularity:
k!lookup <character name>klu <character name>Example: klu Gojo Satoru
Asking prices aren't necessarily selling prices. A card listed for 100 tickets isn't automatically worth 100 tickets.
04 Why Card Prices Change
Card values can fluctuate as Karuta's economy evolves.
▸ Common reasons:
- New editions or character releases.
- Changes in character popularity.
- More copies entering circulation.
- Shifts in demand for certain prints or cosmetics.
- Changes in currency exchange rates.
Avoid relying on outdated price lists. A card's value today may differ from its value several months ago.
