Understanding Card Condition
Every card has its own story, and its condition is just one part of what makes it unique!
Learn about Karuta's five card conditions, how quality affects your collection, and how to improve cards using Upgrade Orbs.
In Karuta, every card has a quality that determines its condition. Understanding quality helps you identify cards and recognize their potential.
01 Understanding Card Condition
Every card is dropped in one of five possible conditions, also called qualities.
| Condition | Stars | Drop Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Mint | ★★★★ | 10% |
| Excellent | ★★★☆ | 20% |
| Good | ★★☆☆ | 40% |
| Poor | ★☆☆☆ | 20% |
| Damaged | ☆☆☆☆ | 10% |
Condition and print rarity are separate. A Single Print can be Damaged, while a High Print can be Mint.

03 Why Condition Matters
Card condition can influence:
- Customization: Some features have quality requirements.
- Working: Quality contributes to a card's worker potential.
- Trading: Higher-quality cards may be more desirable.
- Upgrading: Cards below Mint can be improved.
Lower-quality cards can still be valuable because of their print, character, or artwork.
04 Original Vs. Current Quality
Original quality is the condition a card had when it dropped. Current quality is its condition after any upgrades.
▸ Example:
A card dropped in Poor condition and upgraded to Mint has:
- Original Quality: Poor
- Current Quality: Mint
Original quality remains unchanged and contributes to a worker's Purity.
We'll explain Purity in ⚒︎ Understanding Worker Stats and cover Gold, Dust, and Upgrade Orbs in ♤ Card Upgrading & Upgrade Materials.
